Anti-Aging
Spermidine is a naturally occurring polyamine that stimulates cellular autophagy, and as we age, the amount of spermidine in our bodies decreases. Scientists have observed that increased intake of spermidine is associated with a decrease in total mortality from cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Since the Dutch scientist Levenhuk discovered the existence of spermidine in 1678, scientists have published several studies on spermidine in NATURE and SCIENCE. It has been found that spermidine resists aging mainly through the following ways: increasing cellular autophagy, promoting lipid metabolism, and regulating cell growth and death processes. Cellular autophagy is the main function of spermidine, that is, for the removal of waste substances in the cells, purifying the cellular living environment, so that the human body is in a clean state, playing a positive role in slowing down the aging process. In addition to cellular autophagy, spermidine also induces mitochondrial autophagy, thereby promoting mitochondrial health.
Spermidine can also open up multiple anti-aging channels, on the one hand, inhibit mTOR (excessive activity will promote cancer and accelerate aging), and on the other hand, activate AMPK (an important longevity channel that reduces inflammation and burns fat), so as to achieve a full range of anti-aging. It has also been found that spermidine enhances anti-tumour immune responses.

In 2016, Atherosclerosis published research confirming that spermidine reduces lipid accumulation in atherosclerotic plaques. In the same year, Nature Medicine published a study confirming that spermidine reduces cardiac hypertrophy and improves diastolic function, leading to cardioprotective effects and prolonging the lifespan of mice.
Improvement of Alzheimer's Disease
Spermidine intake is beneficial to human memory function. Professor Reinhart's team in Australia found that spermidine treatment can improve cognitive function in the elderly. The study used a multicentre, double-blind design to enroll 85 elderly people in six nursing homes, who were randomly divided into two groups and given different doses of spermidine powder. Cognitive functions were assessed by a memory test, and the participants were divided into four groups: no dementia, mild dementia, moderate dementia, and severe dementia, blood samples were collected to assess the concentration of spermidine in their blood. The results showed that the concentration of spermine was significantly correlated with cognitive function in the group without dementia and that the cognitive level of the elderly with mild to moderate dementia was significantly improved after the intake of high doses of spermine.
Improving Metabolic Disease
In 2014, a study in The European Journal of Pathology showed that supplementation with spermidine improved glucose utilization and significantly reduced body weight in obese mice, and in 2017, a study published in Cell Death & Disease, a sub-publication of Nature, showed that Spermidine reduces weight gain due to high-calorie diet and improves obesity-related symptoms in mice.
